Contra Post is a newsletter by me, Casey Quackenbush.

Contra Post was born on the road. In the of fall 2020, I drove across the country to report on America in the run up to the election. From September to December, I lived out of a pick-up truck as I traveled through from Kentucky, Appalachia, Texas, Arizona, Montana, and all the way back. This trip culminated with the Capitol Riot in D.C.

Nowadays, Contra Post is driven by my latest assignment or adventure, so I’ll send missives your way as often as I can. As such, it will remain free of charge.

I’m a New York-based freelance journalist writing mostly about politics and climate change. You can find my work in New York Magazine, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, and more.

Until Covid, I was based in Hong Kong for three years, first as a reporter with Time magazine covering Hong Kong/Asia-Pacific. The Hong Kong protests dominated my work in 2019 when I went freelance. I spent most of 2020 on the road, first in Australia writing about the bushfires, and then later the U.S.

You can find all my writing here, and my latest on Twitter @caseyquack.
